La Mirada Madness (Update)

Ellie made the 8U Aliso Viejo silver all star team - the Silver Blaze. This weekend is the first tournament - La Mirada Madness.

The first two games we got thoroughly whooped - first by Riverside and next by Irvine. The Riverside team was unbelievable.......... but our girls had a lot of spirit!

Ellie is #9 and has pink shoes and a pink helmet.

Ellie played a mixture of second base, third base, left field, and right center.

Ellie taking the throw down from catcher during warmups.

Rough day at the plate with two strike outs.

Ellie playing Third base against Irvine - check out the size of the girl on third (and the third base coach for that matter)!!

Em practicing the hurdles over a tree root, ring pop in hand!

Sunday we play La Habra at 3:00!

Sunday Update

Picking-up the action against LaHabra Sunday Afternoon.
Wore the black uniforms today for extra intimidation but the ladies in black went down swinging losing to La Habre 9 to 0.

The had Ellie in at Catcher for the second inning. Did so well she earned another inning, the third, at catcher as well!

Next weekend the fun continues in Carlsbad!!

Mothers Day

For Mothers Day the girls brought darcy breakfast in bed and then we went for a hike that ended up being well over an hour and fairly strenuous at times. The good news is that this was the third hike in a row that we haven't had to carry anyone out!!

Weekend in DC

The weekend of April 21st and 22nd I met up with Mom and Dad in DC. We had a really special couple days together - the weather was beautiful and we were able to see a lot of DC.

Mom had not been since the early 60s and Dad (as a tourist) since the early 70s. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Especially just a couple weeks after Dad's 70th Birthday. Can't remember the last time I had them all to myself.

We visited all the major monuments (TJ, FDR, MLK, Korea, Lincoln, Vietnam, and Washington), the White House, the National Archives, the Natural History Museum, Oak Hill Cemetery, and Air and Space. We walked by Fords Theatre and the Peterson house but did not go in.

We had a strong connection to this section of the WW II monument and thinking about Grandpa. It depicted D-Day and a communications specialist.

On Saturday afternoon we visited Oak Hill Cemetery - a historic cemetery on the north side of Georgetown which happens to the be the resting place for Edwin and Ellen Stanton.  The cemetery staff were very helpful. Very humbling to think about what he was able to accomplish during the 1860s.

I had been to the grave site once before (around 2001 I believe) when I visited Darcy in College. It was much colder that day (and I had hair)!!

We walked by the White House but no sign of Trump. Although there were signs (flags etc) they we getting ready for a visit from France's President.

Monday and Tuesday I was at a conference for work but had the opportunity to visit the Hill and meet with some of our elected officials. Cool experience.
