Silver Warrior Update

Last week we finished up with the all star season, what a busy 2 months with all the weekend tournaments etc. but we had fun.

Here is how the rest of the season played out:

Huntington Beach Tournament
(we missed this as we were in Indiana, see previous post)
  • vs. North Huntington Beach - lost 12 to 1.
  • vs. San Dieguito - won 13 to 4
  • vs. Long Beach Heartwell - lost 2 to 16

Ventura Tournament
  • vs. Fullerton Hills - lost 2 to 13
  • vs. Weslake Agoura - won 9 to 5
  • vs Moorpark- lost 8 to 10 (this was the most exciting game all season, and we should have won, a few bad calls and missed opportunities)

District Tournament
  • vs. Los Alamitos - lost 11 to 14 (another one I think we could have won...we were down 3 to 14 going into the last last inning and scored 8 runs in the last inning. However, if would have played better from the get go we could have won this)
  •
  • vs. Huntington Beach - lost 3 to 13 (we played them close through three innings, it was 2 to 1 going into the 4th and then our pitcher ran out of gas. We actually out hit them 5 to 4)

I think in total we finished 4 wins and 9 losses which is 4 more wins than last year so I will take that and we were close in a couple other games.

But most importantly the girls had fun and Ellie had fun. I had a blast coaching. Ellie did great at shortstop where she played most of the season and must of thrown out 7 - 9 girls at first. In 22 plate appearances she only struck out 4 times, which is good. And in those last two tournaments she really started to put the ball in play more consistently. In the last two games she had 5 RBIs.

This year our away tournament was up in Ventura. We drove up on a Friday afternoon and then had games Saturday and Sunday but we stayed right on the beach. Girls had fun playing on the beach and in the pool when not playing games.

View from our room :)

Ellie and a lot of her teammates got their hair braided

Ready for Districts!

At the Ventura tournament they had a professional photographer taking images of the girls (which we then purchased) - so here are some good action shots of Ellie.

We will miss all the soccer and softball games on the weekends - we have been going strong since early January - but will be nice to have some down weekends this summer before things heat up again in September :) !!

Dads Retirement

A few weeks ago (yes, I am that far behind)  we snuck back to Indiana to surprise my dad on his retirement from Purdue where he has been working since August of 1978 - that is 41 years and 82 semesters!! It was really meaningful for us to be there for this milestone and do some celebrating, reflecting, and relaxing with everyone.

The weather was beautiful and we split the time between Lafayette and Brownsburg.

Some backyard fun, including dodgeball!

Cora is getting so big!

We swung by 2270 and boy was it different to see in the late spring / early summer compared to the winter (plus since our last visit the house had been torn down)

House no more!

We sung by our elementary and middle school and let the kiddos run the bases and run around the track! We spent a LOT of time up here as kids so fun to go back with ours.

Watched Emmerson's ball game.

Attended the Indiana chapter of the St. Xavier High School alumni lunch (Dad's alma mater, in Cincinnati OH) and ballgame at Victory Field to cheer on the Indianapolis Indians.

The beers were tasting mighty good that day!

Fun times with everyone!

I call these next two - monkey see, monkey do!

We made a retirement video for dad collecting all the highlights (or at least as many as we could, hard to condense 41 years)

The man of the hour - celebrating at Arni's!

Well - here is to you Dad, job well done. We all wish you well in retirement, now the fun really begins!!!
