Last Days of Summer Break
With school starting Tuesday - we crammed in a few final items on our bucket list for the summer this weekend.
On Saturday, we took the kids to Laguna for a nice dinner at Las Brisas to reflect on the summer and all the fun we had and think ahead to this coming fall. After dinner we walked along the boardwalk and got ice cream - well actually gelato. It was a very nice evening.
On Sunday, we went to the beach. First time all summer we have been - I guess we finally had a free day without anything going on. Made it down to Salt Creek Beach by 9:00 and stayed through until 2:00. The sun broke through the marine layer around 11:00. Ellie discovered boogy boarding and Emily stayed busy collecting sand crabs.
Well that is a wrap on Summer break 2019. Lots of fun - now time for 3rd grade and kindergarten!!
Ellie as Abu
The last week of summer vacation and Ellie was at Center Stage Studio for a production of Aladdin. Ellie got the part of Abu, Aladdin's trusty but mischievous sidekick friend - who happens to be a monkey. Not a ton of lines but a lot of stage time. She did get a mic. which she was excited about.
They practiced and rehearsed all week and on Friday they did their performance for all the parents to see. They did great!

Cincy and late summer update
Last week I had a work trip to Cincinnati for a few days and since I was in the area Mom and Dad drove down to spend the day. We had a great time seeing the sights of the Queen City and listening to Dad's memories of life in Cincy in the 50s.
We had a great lunch at Mecklenburg Gardens, the oldest restaurant in Cincinnati, founded in 1865. Dads great (great) uncle George Operated this place from ~1930 - 1950 and has an authentic German Beer hall. We also stopped by the house my great grandfather lived in as a child, just south of the University.
We also walked along the river front and over the Roebling Suspension bridge into KY. This bridge was used as the prototype for the Brooklyn bridge.
The kids have had fun with summer friends and sleep overs.
The girls also spent a fun week in Phoenix sans parents - and like I say, what happens in Phoenix stays in Phoenix.
For her Birthday, Darcy tried her hand at surfing with Jody and some friends. Surfs up!!
Well that is the late summer update. School starts in a week........
