Weekend in DC

The weekend of April 21st and 22nd I met up with Mom and Dad in DC. We had a really special couple days together - the weather was beautiful and we were able to see a lot of DC.

Mom had not been since the early 60s and Dad (as a tourist) since the early 70s. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Especially just a couple weeks after Dad's 70th Birthday. Can't remember the last time I had them all to myself.

We visited all the major monuments (TJ, FDR, MLK, Korea, Lincoln, Vietnam, and Washington), the White House, the National Archives, the Natural History Museum, Oak Hill Cemetery, and Air and Space. We walked by Fords Theatre and the Peterson house but did not go in.

We had a strong connection to this section of the WW II monument and thinking about Grandpa. It depicted D-Day and a communications specialist.

On Saturday afternoon we visited Oak Hill Cemetery - a historic cemetery on the north side of Georgetown which happens to the be the resting place for Edwin and Ellen Stanton.  The cemetery staff were very helpful. Very humbling to think about what he was able to accomplish during the 1860s.

I had been to the grave site once before (around 2001 I believe) when I visited Darcy in College. It was much colder that day (and I had hair)!!

We walked by the White House but no sign of Trump. Although there were signs (flags etc) they we getting ready for a visit from France's President.

Monday and Tuesday I was at a conference for work but had the opportunity to visit the Hill and meet with some of our elected officials. Cool experience.

Update 2 - End of Season Softball Tournament

Friday April 20th: I wasn't there to see the game ( I was in DC) but I heard they lost a close one. I also heard Ellie tagged a girl out trying to steal 3rd base!

Wednesday April 18th:
No such luck tonight. The panthers went down probably on the order of 10 to 2, although I lost track of the score.

Next game - Friday!

Monday April 16th:
Wow an exciting game on the AVGS fields tonight!

Panthers had a one run lead going into the bottom of the third. Somehow they managed to not allow any runs, possibly the only time all season they haven't allowed a run in an inning.

Ellie had a nice hit and had a good stop out in center field. The girls were all excited for the W.

Next game is Wednesday evening!

Pink Panther Update

Today was the last regular season game for the Panthers, a LONGGGGGG season and I lost track of their Ws vs Ls.

Ellie has come a long way, especially with throwing and catching.

She has really struggled at the plate this year, she is very close but can never seem to get it in play.  Hard to hit off of kid pitching at this age.

Here is to a fun season, tournament starts Monday!

Spring Break

The girls spent the week in Phoenix for spring break 2018. The big news was that Stacey had her baby, a little boy named Ayden. The reports I get are that Stacey and baby Ayden are doing well. Really special that the girls could be out there to meet their new cousin.

Since we were there over Easter there were lots of good easter egg hunts, at the Anthem club, GJ and Bobpa's house and Aunt Lisa and Uncle Les house.

Cousin sleep over is always a big hit!

A fun day down at Minnie's to celebrate Uncle Ernie's B-day!

Ellie and Uncle Ted in an intense game of Chicken Feet!

The Gruffalo

Last weekend we went to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts to catch a live showing of The Gruffalo, a popular kids book. Kids had a blast and did great sitting through a live show.

Special shout out to GJ and Bobpa for getting all of us tickets as Christmas gifts back in December.

Silly old fox, everyone knows there is no such thing as a Gruffalo!
