Covid Week #6

Week #6 in the books. No real updates here.

My observation is that Ellie is like a nomad moving from room to do her school work. Here she has made a standing desk on her bed.

Em either working hard or hardly working, as they say. Hard to know what is really going on here. I think she is actually taking a snooze but making it look like she is working.......

I guess the big news here is that Emily's front tooth FINALLY came out! It had been loose for MONTHS going back to the fall. The best part, it finally fell out while she was watching TV!! Here is one of the last pictures I have of Em with her tooth clearly protruding out. It was actually starting to cut her lower lip :)).

Here she is post-tooth lose and going all bugs bunny on a carrot with her new tooth!

Hmmmmm pancakes for dinner!!

Emily has been learning about patriotic symbols in school, can you tell?

Girls on a virtual Girl Scout meeting

On the pet front, our caterpillars turned into their chrysalis phase! Darcy bravely and delicately moved them into the net. Should have butterflies in a few days!

Covid week #5

Week 5 of Covid isolation is now behind us and we are heading into week #6. Week 5 was exciting - we celebrated Passover with a Seder dinner and Easter with a traditional egg hunt. We got some pets in the form of an ant farm and caterpillars that will turn into butterflies that we will let loose.

Some adventure here as we try to transfer the ~30 ants from the tube they arrived in to the farm where the will make there homes. It was all going well until the ants decided they didn't want to go down the funnel into their farm and instead started crawling up and out of the paper funnel I had made.

It was a little touch and go as Darcy and I had to capture any escaped ants and get them into the farm but I think we got most of them in finally.

A few days later we had a fully functioning farm with tunnels and all (although a lot have died).

And here are the caterpillars shortly after they arrived and about a 7 days later - boy have they grown!  They are easier to care for.

Moving on from the bugs, here are the girls all dressed for the Seder dinner in celebration of Passover.

GJ and Bobpa joined us via Skype as we recounted the story of the Jews being liberated from slavery in ancient Egypt.

The following day being Easter we were visited by the Easter Bunny.

The girls stayed busy with their virtual school assignments - Emily has been learning to draw watching lots of online tutorials.

It was Mrs. Fantasia's  (Emily's kinder. teacher) Birthday. In celebration the class surprised her with a socially distant car parade through the school parking lot. Emily made this banner in celebration.

Onward to week 6!!

Covid Week #4

Just finished our 4th week in isolation and heading into week 5. This week the teachers were on their spring break. Technically the girls were supposed to be doing "enrichment activities" but you can imagine how that went.

This past Sunday we put these girls to work - time to earn your keep scrubin' toilets and moping floors! Everyone has to contribute.

We had a lot of rain this week and one afternoon we went snail hunting! There is Emily building up the courage to pick one up.

Taking advantage of some nice weather and playing a board game.

Emily dialed into the iPad.

Not sure why but the girls decided to wear matching red dresses the other day.

In other news - we finished our puzzle!! It took about 3 weeks. There were several times when we almost threw in the towel but we persevered.

Covid Week #3

Well - we have now completed 3 weeks of isolation due to Covid. So far so good. This week the school went a little better and seemed more organized. Although, next week the teachers are taking off for their "spring break" so the girls might have to fend for themselves.

We have been going on a lot of bike rides around the neighborhood to get fresh air and exercise.

Ellie has to complete a non-fiction book report so we looked at the Who Was? series of books and picked out three that seemed to peak her interest - The Berlin Wall, The San Francisco Earthquake, and The Chicago Fire. Seems like she is into disasters and human suffering.......sign of the times I guess.

To help with all the lessons and school work Ellie is having to do virtually/online we broke down and got her her own Chrome Book, she was excited. And now she doesn't have to use our computer.

Emily having her first Kindergarten virtual meeting and doing some online homework on the computer.

When Emily isn't imersed in her school work she has turned her room into an elaborate "zoo" for all her stuffies. There are daily feedings to boot!

Making good progress on the puzzle although certain sections have been a slog.
