Covid week #11

Well this past week was a fun one. Particularly because of the long 3-day Memorial Weekend but also things started to open back up in Orange County, including restaurants and stores. Feels like people are starting to come out of their covid bubbles a bit.

On Saturday we got Emily a new bicycle. Her other bike had a popped tire and was really getting to small. She was soooo excited to have a new bike (she loves to ride) and we ventured on a family bike ride that afternoon.

In the afternoon a neighbor friend of ours from Louisiana hosted a crayfish boil.  Technically it probably wasn't in keeping with good social distancing practices, but we were at least outside. Ricky has all the gear and overnights the crayfish from a buddy who farms them in Louisiana. The food was good, the beers were cold, and the kids enjoyed running around and playing with each other.  It must have been a good time because we were out there from about 2:30 to 9:30!

Me getting ready to feast on a crawfish.

Emily getting ready to torment this poor guy. I am not sure what is a worse fate - being tormented by Emily and her friends or dumped into a boiling bot of water........

A motley crew would be an understatement......

Some of Ellie's really good softball friends. Kelsey on the left plays a mean 3rd base, Ash in the middle can bring the heat from the pitching circle, and Ellie holds it down at short. So bummed our season was canceled.....but fun to spend time eating crayfish!

On Memorial day we ventured to the beach. The first time in a while we have been. We got there on the early side to beat the rush. The girls enjoyed splashing around and exploring.

Lochness monster or seals????

After the beach we were all hungry so we swung by and got some burgers. After 3 long months they might have been the best tasting burgers evah!

I capped off the long weekend by playing catch with each of the girls, the highlight of my weekend without a doubt.

The rest of the short week flew by. Girls finishing-up there school work (last day of school is next Thursday!!).  Ellie seems to be buttering me up for something because she has wanted to go on nightly walks together around the neighborhood.

A rare moment when the girls seem to be getting along. Actually, I really think so much time together the past few months has been good for them. Maybe a silver lining in all this.

Covid week #10

This week, on the16th, Darcy and I celebrated our 11th wed. anniversary!! Never did I think we would celebrate in quarantine..... we got dressed up a bit (at least out of our quarantine cloths) and ordered some food to bring back to the house. The girls thought it was fun to take our pictures - so here you go from our "photo shoot".

Several times a week as part of our morning routine we start our day with a little yoga. I was a little skeptical at first but it has really helped with my back pain. Anyhow, with some help from Emily I was able to do this!

Ellie is def. going through a growth spurt because she is eating us out of house and home. We joke with her that she is like a teenage boy (and kinda gross like one too). She is def. ready for 4th grade.

And when she isn't eating she is doing cartwheels CONSTANTLY around the house. It is driving Darcy and I CRAZY......

Emily is doing well to. She has mastered her kindergarten zoom meetings, climbing on top of our outdoor fireplace, and using chopsticks to eat her Cheetos - which is brilliant b/c it keeps the fingers free of Cheeto dust!

After the snails, ant farm, and caterpillars we have turned toward botany. Darcy got each of the girls a root viewer garden. They had fun mixing the dirt, planting some seeds, and adding the water.

The fish tank looking thing in the pic. below is the "garden". Each girl has one.  Ellie planted carrots and Emily planted radishes. Maybe in a couple months we can harvest.

Covid week #9

Week 9 of Covid quarantine and the big excitement was Mother's Day for sure! To celebrate Mom we went on a really nice hike Saturday afternoon in Aliso Woods Canyon, went for ~1.5 hrs which might be a record for the girls.

On Sunday we made Darcy breakfast and then the girls and I went to the ballpark for a bit so Mom could have a couple hrs home alone, in peace and quiet.

Hiking on Mother's Day is a bit of a tradition:

2018 (2 yrs. ago)

2017 (3 yrs ago)

Ellie had a virtual cooking class with her girl scout troop and made strawberry shortcake, which earned her another badge. By the way her vest is really filling up with badges.

We got Ellie some roller blades as another outlet for her boundless energy (Darcy and I have to tell her 100's of times a day to knock off the endless cartwheels she does around the house.....driving us CRAZY). I digress, she has been practicing a TON and essentially has it down.

Emily keeping up on her scooter. We got her some new pool diving toys for when the pool opens up.

Not sure what is going on here - a seemingly naked Em, about 3 feet in front of the TV, eating an ice cream sandwich........I think the quarantine life is treating her well!

In honor of Covid-19 essential workers the Thunderbirds flew over SoCal today. We walked up to the golf course and got a decent view as they flew by!
